Starting point
Aydın Petrolcülük could not calculate correctly the profit share in its dealership agreement with the fuel distributor. Under the agreement a certain percentage of the profit goes to the dealer and the rest to the distributor; on top of that, the distributor's payment to the dealer consists of two separate mechanisms — a fixed rate paid on purchase of the goods, and a per-m³ fee that changes in tiers according to the volume sold. Up to a certain volume this fee is zero; after that it becomes a fixed amount per m³. This multi-layered calculation could not be done by hand, and because the data of 4 different stations was tracked separately, seeing the overall picture had become almost impossible.
